Maltby’s the Bookbinders (established in 1834) and its sister company Green Street Bindery (est. 1982) together make up the Kemp Hall Bindery Group - Oxford's premier bookbinders. Between them, the two companies produce every style of hardback and a few styles of soft bound books.
Please use the navigation bar at the top of this screen for a comprehensive guide to the services we offer.
Maltby’s is a traditional family-owned business with a fine reputation for training young bookbinders; this has allowed us to prosper for over 175 years, since the reign of William IV. In recent times, highly trained binders from Europe have joined the company, bringing with them new skills, and in return learning traditional British styles of binding.
We have close links to Oxford University, which we serve in many ways; binding theses for students (who can thereafter become life-long clients), restoring old books and binding journals for college and institutional libraries, and creating special bespoke bindings for dons.
Maltby’s & Green Street are proud to serve their many other clients too. We restore and bind books for universities, libraries & learned institutions both here and abroad, as well as catering for customers who wish to have an individual book bound or repaired. Green Street will bind new books for publishers and printers.
We are always pleased to offer free advice to clients on the printing, binding and options for restoration of their books.
If you are planning to visit us please telephone or email in advance.
